Away from the crowds, nestled on the virgin sands of Kaup beach (or Kapu as the locals call it) in the west coast of India, stands the Blue Matsya - a self-catering beach house that is charmingly picturesque and with all the warmth of a home. It gets its name from its blue louvered doors and windows and the abundance of Matsya (sanskrit for fish).
If you prefer, a car and driver can be arranged, for a day or throughout the duration of your stay. Autorickshaw drivers are just a phone call away if you want to go anywhere locally. You will find the locals to be shy but very helpful and honest. A safe and secure place.
It has been built entirely with local and eco friendly materials. From the pebbles embedded in the sit out, the Tree of Life mural on the entrance, an old door converted into a dining table, teak wood doors and windows lovingly restored from buildings belonging to the British Raj, every part of the house has a story to tell.
There are two good sized bedrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor with its own large private terrace. Both bedrooms have their own bathrooms - large and tastefully accessorised with linen and towels to make your stay comfortable. The living area has a double futon and two single futons that can sleep 4 people, the bedrooms can each sleep 2 people. The house can accommodate 8 guests, and at a stretch up to 9.The house has an open plan kitchen and living room that opens into a sit out facing the sea. Attached to the living area is a small but cute bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, cooking gas, refrigerator, cookware, dinnerware, water purification system and a washing machine.

The house right on the beach, just a few feet from the waterline. Its Mangalore tiles and proximity to the beach keep the house cool through even the warmest summers with fans for those who may need it. The house has been designed so that every room in the house, including the bathrooms, has spectacular views of the sea and the lighthouse.
Food is not included. For a very nominal amount, caretaker's wife, Sarsuakka, can provide a simple yet lovely local breakfast. There are local restaurants that you can order in from. And a couple of home cooks who will deliver if you pre order.

Guests are expected to keep the place clean and tidy. Although a self catering accommodation, Ramanna, the caretaker will come once a day to clean the house and do the dishes. Kids over the age of 5 are charged Rs 900
